We’re honored to welcome Dr. Pablo Urrutia, an internationally acclaimed periodontist and implantologist from Chile, as our guest speaker for this year’s LSU Perio “Show and Tell” event. Join us for this inspiring session as Dr. Urrutia delves into cutting-edge techniques and case studies that bridge the gap between hard and soft tissue reconstruction.

The title of Dr. Urrutia’s presentation will be, “Periodontal and Peri-implant Reconstruction: Synergy of Hard and Soft Tissues.”

Today is such an exciting time to practice implant dentistry. Now more than ever, we understand the importance and role of hard and soft tissues in maintaining long term implant site stability. Not only do we have multiple techniques to allow development of these tissues, but there are also different treatment philosophies that we can follow.

This lecture will aim to review different preservation and augmentation techniques that are currently available. We will discuss the advantages, indications, and need for both of these treatment philosophies in clinical practice. The lecture will then conclude with clinical cases that demonstrate the day-to-day application of these treatment modalities.

Dr. Pablo Urrutia earned his dental degree from Universidad Andrés Bello in Santiago, Chile in 2009. He subsequently earned a Master’s in Odontostomatology, and certificates in Periodontics and Implantology and Advanced Implant Surgery in 2010, 2012, and 2015 respectively.

He currently specializes in Periodontics and Implantology and is the Director of PerioPlastic Continuing Education, where he serves as director and instructor in various programs.

Dr. Urrutia is an international Speaker with expertise in Periodontal Plastic Surgery, Implantology, and Bone Regeneration. He has delivered lectures and participated in academic events in the USA, Spain, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina.

Please note- There is no registration fee for this event. This event is offered in gratitude to individuals who have or will contribute to either The LSUHSC Foundation Periodontics Support Fund or The LSUHSC Foundation Perio Resident Education and Research Fund at the Patron Level ($250) or above. 5 hours of clincal CE will be awarded for this program.

The Show ‘N Tell event is underwritten by the R. Jack and Mary Louise Cassingham Endowed Chair in Periodontics.

The chair was established in 2003 two years before Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and the LSU school of dentistry. Because of Dr. Jack and Mary Louise Cassingham’s love and devotion to each other and their family as well as Dr. Cassingham’s lifelong dedication to dentistry, their family chose to fund the endowment in their honor. Dr. Gerald Evans, head of periodontics department, currently holds the Cassingham Chair.

In 1974 Dr. Cassingham helped launch the LSUSD Postdoctoral Program in Periodontics. He taught periodontics at LSUSD for 20 years and received the distinguished clinician award in 1987, all while maintaining his periodontics practice in the LSUSD Faculty Practice.  Upon retirement in 1994, he was appointed Professor Emeritus to LSUSD. Mrs.  Cassingham attended Loyola University School of law where she graduated law review. She worked as a law clerk with the Louisiana Supreme Court for 10 years. Dr. Cassingham passed away in 2007.

Show ‘N Tell Is an annual event hosted by the LSU School of Dentistry (LSUSD) Department of Periodontics. The event couples a morning lecture given by a  noteworthy speaker followed by resident and fellow case presentations.
